Prediction 0004 :: The End of Rock and Roll

by

A day will come when the combination of lead guitar, rhythm guitar, bass guitar, drums, and lead singer will no longer be viable. A day will come when every chord progression, every melody possible will have been played.

that day has probably already come and gone, but it doesn’t mean R&R is dead. it’s not about the chords and notes (everyone uses the same ones). it’s all about how you play them and what you look like in the process.

This is perhaps why I do not fully understand rock and roll. Perhaps I am unable to understand. Also, thanks David, for giving me the gumption to understand formatting tags in the comments box.

  3. david Says:

    my pleasure.

Music and mathematics are similar in that they are both finite, making this prediction possible. Regardless, I’d find your prediction nearly impossible to calculate and prove considering there 90+ sub-genres in Rock N Roll.
I think this prediction can be applied to other art forms as well: Film, Literature, Photography, and Painting. Someday everything will have already been written, filmed, painted, and photographed- yet it will be absorbed, performed and interpreted differently, therefore always seeming “new” to someone.

That’s David all over. Always emphasizing the pleasure.

a lot of people can make chocolate chip cookies. a lot of people even use the exact same recipe as me. but only i can get the result i do. and that’s what makes my particular chocolate chip cookies world-famous.

Lenny Kravitz already proved this a few years ago Toby, but if you listened to RnR, you would’ve known this. :)

your prediction assumes a direct correlation between viability and originality. a casual observation of almost every facet of popular culture suggests precisely the opposite to be true.

    What? I assumed E A & D is all there is. I know I don’t need anything else.

Being the mother of a budding Rock Star, it would be hard for me to imagine that Rock n Roll would ever come to an end… at least not in my basement… I now know what a “cab” and “head” are… :)
